Why should we care about Carbon Emissions
Climate change is a global problem that needs global solutions. One of the main causes that is associated with the climate change is carbon emissions. Everybody already sees and feels the effects of the global warming worldwide, when the natural disasters have nearly doubled in the past 20 years according to the UN data.

Below are just some of the examples of the recent disaster, related to Global Warming:
  • Droughts in 2011, 2017, 2019 and 2021 have left over 15 million people in East Africa in need of aid.‎
  • 2021 was the year of unprecedently huge fires across the globe in Europe, California, Siberia, Australia, when more than 100 million hectares of forests were burnt, bringing numerous deaths, leaving millions of people homeless, creating devastating losses for biodiversity.
  • In 2021 deadly floods and landslides have left over 12 million people in India, Nepal and Bangladesh without their homes. Europe and USA were also nor spared from heavy floods.
  • Central America saw 6th consecutive years of draught, when most crops have been destroyed leaving over 6 million people foods insecure.

Going carbon neutral
According to the European Parliament, carbon neutrality is reached when the same amount of CO2 is released into the atmosphere as is removed by various means.
Many countries in the world have already recognized the issue at the highest level and announced their road plan to achieve carbon neutrality in the nearest future:
  • The 27-member bloc of EU has vowed to become carbon neutral by 2050.
  • The United States has set a target to reach 100% carbon pollution free electricity by 2035 and to achieve total carbon neutrality by 2050.
  • At its address to the 75th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 75) President Xi Jinping declared that China will ‘aim to have CO2 emissions peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.’
  • Thailand poised to target 50% EV use, carbon neutrality by 2050
  • In line with international community Taiwan is actively working towards carbon neutrality by 2050

What is Carbon Footprint
The trace of the greenhouse gases resulting from everyday economic and human activity, expressed as carbon dioxide equivalent are known as carbon footprint.

Carbon emission footprints for Aluminium products, depends on the source of energy, used for aluminium production. Most clean is aluminium production with hydropower, which in general generate 5 times less emissions, that production, based on coal energy.

What is EU Carbon Border Adjustment Certificate
The EU Commission introduced a proposal for a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which should prevent the risk of “carbon leakage”, when the companies based in the EU could move carbon-intensive production abroad to take advantage of lax standards, or EU products could be replaced by more carbon-intensive imports.

The CBAM will equalize the price of carbon between domestic products and imports and ensure that the EU’s climate objectives are not undermined by production relocating to countries with less ambitious policies. It also aims to encourage industry outside the EU and our international partners to take steps in the same direction

CBAM rules stipulate, that EU importers will buy carbon certificates corresponding to the carbon price that would have been paid, had the goods been produced under the EU’s carbon pricing rules. Conversely, once a non-EU producer can show that they have already paid a price for the carbon used in the production of the imported goods in a third country, the corresponding cost can be fully deducted for the EU importer. The CBAM will encourage producers in non-EU countries to green their production processes.

How you can contribute
  • Adopt responsible, sustainable and circular consumption. By using products which originally have low or neutral “carbon footprint” helps to reduce the “carbon footprint” of downstream production.
  • Promote and tell others importance of reducing carbon footprint
  • Improve the energy efficiency and energy saving within your company. Consider having an energy audit to identify areas of saving and improvements.
  • Choose where possible renewable energy sources.
How can we help
For INTELORG PTE LTD it is a strategic imperative to promote products which have low carbon footprint.
INTELORG will help you to source aluminium and other products with low carbon footprint, supported by documents, issued by independent international agencies allowing to reduce the total carbon footprint of the end product and consult you on related issues.
